After the lastest Firefox updates the Java platform quick working and I've tried everything suggested to get it to work again (I've gone through all the help suggestions listed) and nothing has worked. I need java for my business and have always been a huge fan of Firefox however this is a major issue as without java I cannot keep using Firefox. I have even tried uninstalling both Firefox and Java and followed all instructions to see if that worked and it did not fix the issue. Everything is up to date and there seems to be no fix for this. Is there something I'm missing? If this cannot be fixed I'm going to have to stop using Firefox. This is a major setback for Firefox and I'm not sure why they released a new version if this was going to happen. It says to try updating my graphics driver however this is a bit past my "expertise" and a person shouldn't have to take their computer in to a repair shop just to use Firefox or get this type of thing done. I have NO CLUE what the graphics driver is or how to check to update it, let alone if this will even work and am not going to risk messing my computer up to see if this will work. Java works on IE and Chrome perfectly fine and there should be no reason it doesn't work on Firefox.

I'm not sure which list of troubleshooting steps you consulted, but presumably this article was among them: Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites.

Is the problematic Java applet online? You could post a URL for others to test (I haven't noticed any problems).

In case one of your other add-ons is interfering, you could try Firefox's Safe Mode.

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Next, restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."

You probably will need to go to the Add-ons > Plugins page to re-enable Java in order to test. Any luck?

is the java plugin showing up in firefox > addons > plugins and set set to enabled there?

I have done the above as far as starting FF in safe mode. It's still doing it. Yes the java plugin is showing up as enabled when not in safe mode.

Evidently there doesn't seem to be a fix for this. Because of this I can't use Firefox. I'm deleting it off my computer. It's useless to me. After all the time I've been an avid fan and user of FF this is ridiculous. All of this started after their last updates and I'm not happy. I guess I go to Chrome since I can at least get things to work on that.

I think yours is the only post I've read about Java problems with Firefox 12 or 13, so unlike Flash (!!), the issues most likely to be causing your problem have not yet been identified. If you are tired of troubleshooting, please do whatever you need to do to get on with life.

However, if you want further input, could you post the URL of the page with the non-working Java applet? Or do all Java applets fail to run, including Oracle's test page? http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

I had a similar issue but I discovered that I was attempting to use a 64 bit version of java on the 32 bit version of Firefox. Both have to be 32 bit or both have to be 64 bit.

Turns out the 64 bit version of Firefox is in alpha and is only available under the nightly builds. (This is the solution I chose, I don't see any difference in quality ... yet)

However I would just recommend for the vast majority of people to just use 32 bit java and the 32 bit version of Firefox even though your OS may be 64 bit.

If I have troubles with the 64 bit version of Firefox I will follow my own advice and install the 32 bit version of Java.

Also note, it's probably best to only have either 32 bit Java + Mozilla *or* 64 bit versions installed - not both. Just for simplicity's sake.

Update: turns out that Internet Explorer (64 bit) apparently doesn't like 64 bit java. Since I run some things in ietab within Firefox which require java this was the deal breaker.

Note: yes, I executed "regsvr32 jscript.dll" - didn't help.

I've rolled back to 32 bit everything (java, firefox, ie) and no issues.
