How can I get a htm file to work properly in Firefox when it is in the first tab?

If I open a local htm file in Firefox with no other tabs present and do a JavaScript prompt the input box opens but Firefox hangs, saying it is connecting. It does this when trying to start file from Windows Explorer or from trying to run it from Notepad++. However, file opens properly if it is in second or higher tab.

I am using Firefox 12.0 and have XP operating system. While I have a workaround by having Firefox already running, I must be missing some setting.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Thanks for your quick reply. Sorry for slow response. I followed your instructions and put Firefox in safe mode. Program had the default theme. However, it still hangs with simple JavaScript htm files. Fortunately, it accepts online files.

Do you have any other suggestions I could try?

Thanks for your help.

What kind of local files are you trying to open and what kind of content is on the pages?

Are that files that you've saved from the internet?
