I have version Firefox 10.0 and it is trying to update to 10.0.01 but msg states update could not be installed. Please make sure no other copies of FF are running. I had this problem before V10 was updated and re-installed FF at that time. Why does this continue to happen. I tried restarting and Run as admin but nothing works.

Hi,

Please try deleting the parent.lock file in the Firefox Profile Folder. You can also open this folder via Firefox Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder, and exit Firefox.

TY, I tried to delete folder (parent.lock)but tells me it was opened, it is actually an empty folder. I had to re-install Firefox again. if this is what it takes every time there is an update, its ridiculous. Did what you said and exited FF. For now it is solved but will try deleting that folder again

Make sure that your security software or other software isn't using files in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\)

Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click firefox.exe: Run as Administrator).
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) to do a clean reinstall.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I have tried all the above suggestions but it wouldn't allow me to rename Profile and/or couldn't locate CreateProfile I wanted to do a clean install and couldn't go with it. this will be fine until they come up with another update and then the circle starts again. I do have version 10.01 now by reinstalling it. I have to make a back up copy of the profile folder and then just uninstall the entire program. thanks for the help.
