Greetings,

I accidentally deleted a password from "Saved Passwords". How do I get Firefox to prompt me to save a password again? Typing in the username and password doesn't work.

Thanks, Shane.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history

  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

"Always use private browsing mode" is cleared.

Since I've accidentally deleted the username/password, I can't get Firefox to remember it again. Another other suggestions?

Thanks, Shane.

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.

It's not. It had saved my username and password properly - the problem was that I accidentally deleted it. Now I can't get Firefox to remember it again.

Make sure that there aren't any entries in the Password Manager with an empty name or password field.

Also check the exceptions:

  • Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Exceptions"

There was an entry that had a password but no username. I removed it, but the problem still persists.

There are no exceptions.

What about if I clear "Remember password for sites", and then check it again? Will I lose all of my passwords when I clear it?

It is better to export your passwords before starting to experiment.

Try this extension:

I checked the HTML source again, and there is now an autocomplete="off" attribute on the password field. This attribute must have appeared after I originally saved the password. Now that I've accidentally deleted the username and password, though, Firefox won't let me save it again.

I'm sorry for the trouble. I should have been keeping a closer watch on the HTML source.
