Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.

Also, make sure that you are using the following settings so that Firefox do not Automatically Clear your History when Firefox closes:

-> click Firefox button and click Options -> Privacy -> History section -> Firefox will: select "Use Custom Settings for History" -> REMOVE Checkmark from Permanent Private Browsing mode -> place Checkmarks on:

1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search and Form History 4) Accept Cookies from sites 4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> Keep Until : select They Expire

-> REMOVE CHECKMARK from CLEAR HISTORY WHEN FIREFOX CLOSES

-> Click OK on Options window -> Restart Firefox

Check and tell if its working.

Many thanks. However, all those check marks were already as you suggested and "Restore Previous Session" is still greyed out which I don't want it to be.

So is your problem resolved ?? OR is it still intact ??

Unfortunately, my problem is still not resolved.

Session Restore

Check and tell if its working.

No it isn't! Thanks to your last reply I was able to locate the Session Restore window. I followed the solution for system restore including ticking all the right boxes BUT when I went to look at the result "Restore Previous Session" was still greyed out. I am back to square one. I don't know whether to reload IE or try Google Chrome or what. Mozilla is certainly not assisting my problem, only you fellow users. I don't want to sound ungrateful but it's very frustrating when you can't make contact with the operators of Firefox.

Does Firefox keep history if you close and restart Firefox?

Only for that day.

Do you use Privacy Cleanup softwares like CCleaner ??

  • IF Yes, then DON'T SELECT FIREFOX IN ITS SETTINGS.

These softwares can be responsible for Deleting your Firefox History & Settings

I do run CCleaner. I have now unticked all Firefox settings in CCleaner. Fingers crossed that works!

Restore Previous Session is still greyed out though.

Browse some websites in Tabs and Windows. Now Close Firefox (click Firefox button -> click Exit OR File Menu -> Exit)

Now try to Restore Previous Session using this link:

Check and tell if its working.

No. This hasn't helped. "restore Previous Session" is still greyed out and the Library still permits only "Today's" Session to be observed in History. Why is it still greyed out? I appreciate your attempts to help me.

Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

-> Basic Troubleshooting: Make a New Profile

-> If that New Profile works then you can recover your Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.

-> Recovering important data from an old profile

Check and tell if its working.
