Cannot reinstall an extension

Until a few weeks ago, I had the McAfee extension installed. It is now no longer there and when I try to install it, I get the error message : Firefox could not install the search plugin from "https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/256701/addon-256701-latest.xml?src=addondetail" because an engine with the same name already exists.

How can I delete the old copies of McAfee?

This answered my question on why I could not add the McAfee plugin. After deleting the search engine from Firefox by using "manage search engines", I no longer got the error message that the engine already existed.

However, the plugin from Firefox did not do what I previously had before McAfee stopped working on Firefox.

By going to McAfee's website: http://home.mcafee.com/store/free-services I was able to put the extension back into Firefox and things work the way they did prior to having this problem.

I believe what might have happened is that this McAfee extension was not carried over during an update of Firefox.
