Mozilla's homepage number of users is misleading, because it does not take into account the hundred or more EACH hour that are, in frustration, abandoning V4.1 and returning to 3.1.17.

So when is Team Firefox going to 'fess up and make an announcement that an entire rollback is needed, and Versions 4 need to go back to the shop for a rebuild?

I love Firefox and have used it since the very 1st one came out but the problems that I developed with 4.1 are reminiscent of the day of the Blue Screen of Death.

Misleading how? It doesn't say "users", it is a count of downloads. Most of us aren't having any problems with Firefox 4. The vast majority of the complaints about Firefox 4 are related to changes in the UI, and not performance problems like you claim to have.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
