Although FF4 stored my passwords it isnt automatically inserting them when I visit the relevant sites. I have to go to the tools/option /security folder to retrieve the details then enter them manually. Next time I access the site all is well.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Thanks for your reply However you seem to be confusing history, cookies and stored passwords. The stored passwords still exist within FF4 however it isnt accessing them to auto log me in to sites. If I manually type my Id and password in it remembers it from then on whenever I re-access the site. Password integration didnt seem to happen between previous version of FF and FF4 on upgrading. This problem is sortable but yet another niggle that has been introduced with FF4.

Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
So if you do not keep cookies then you have to log in again on each visit or at least after restarting Firefox.

In Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
In Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode Firefox won't fill names and passwords automatically.

  • Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • In Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.

Do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

Thank again for the speedy response. I was set to accept cookies so it shouldnt have been a problem. As I didnt have to change any settings for the site to be remembered after the first inputting of details after the upgrade it must have been a quirke of FF4 not lifting details from the previous version. Its not the best upgrade thats been put out. it's difficult to see what improovements it has brought.
