I had no Bookmarks or History system when I logged in this morning. I re-booted and tried the suggestion from the support page, nothing. There is a banner heading stating "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem."...What do I do?
Chosen solution
FIREFOX SHOULD HAVE PERFECTED 3.6.3 BEFORE RELEASING IT. IT IS CRAP.

Hi Issac, If you've already tried the steps in Fix "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message, then my suggestion would be to create a new profile (see - Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles). If you can save bookmarks with a new profile then you can try moving your bookmarks over from the old profile to the new one (see - Recover important data from an old profile).

I have been a Firefox user for years. Firefox 3.63 is the best version so far.
Anonymous: If you are having problems with Firefox, click on "Ask a New Question" at the top of the forum, state the problem clearly, with site links if needed for clarity, include all the information requested under "Troubleshooting Information" (see: Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues ), let the "Plugins Installed" section self-populate. That way we have more information to evaluate your problem.
If you are mounting your home profile over nfs, the problem occurs because a little problem between nfs and sqlite.
In certain way, nfs locks sqlite databases (wich google chrome and firefox uses to store information about your bookmarks, history, etc). Thus, cleaning your .mozilla/firefox folder does not solve that.
You can solve this with mounting your home folder with nolock option, as a sync options to do not cache your data.
- mount <server_ip>:/home /home -o nolock,sync
