Got the following from Google:

"Google Soon you’ll sign in with 2-Step Verification [email protected] After you enter your password, you’ll complete a second step on your phone. Keep your phone nearby when you sign in.

2-Step Verification will be turned on automatically on December 14. You can turn this on sooner if you want — your account is all set."

I get my email auto downloaded from my Google mail account. Will this change affect my ability to auto download?

Not sure what exactly this means. As the message says you’ll have to complete a second step on your phone.

Make sure the authentication method in Thunderbird is set to OAuth2 in the server settings for the Gmail account.
