Unread emails only highlighted in debug mode
Hi a month or so ago thunderbird stopped highlighting unread emails. It would download them and after a second or so remove the highlight. In case they were being read elsewhere I changed my email password. This did not work so upgraded from version 8.xx to the latest version 9. Still did not fix the problem. I then tried running in debug mode which fixed the problem but the problem returned once I left debug mode. Diabling add-on and resetting the settings had no effect. What does running in debug mode turn off? As what ever it disables I would like to make that permanant so that I may have unread emails highlighted? Regards Mike Brassington

The link is available now, and it lists the features that are applied in safe mode.
If you've disabled all add-ons, reset toolbars & controls, disabled hardware acceleration, applied the default theme, don't use Bitdefender, and there is no userChrome.css, I can't explain why the problem persists. Perhaps create a new profile from Help/More Troubleshooting, about:profiles, add an account, and see if anything changes.

The issue of unread messages being marked as read was recently due to the Bitdefender anti-spam add-on, but if you don't have that, and the problem was absent in safe mode, it could be due to hardware acceleration or a broken layout (or, less likely, a userChrome.css file):

If hardware acceleration, under Preferences/General/Indexing, is enabled in normal mode, disable it, restart TB, and see if the problem remains.
Hi disabling hardware acceleration does not fix the problem. The link you gave me times out.
Any other suggestions? Mike

I manually delete the bitdefender add-on and now the highlighting works, I thought that when I checked the disable add-on when I started debug mode that the disable would be permenent.
Thanks you for thr advice and this thread can be closed
