2 GB of Memory??!

more options

Hi there, I recently realized that Firefox is taking ALMOST 2GB of memory when I use it!! Is that normal? I thought my laptop was dying on me- but it's the same thing on another computer. Everything slows down and freezes.

I use adobe creative cloud- Maybe illustrator and photoshop open often at the same time. But Firefox is always the one that uses the most. I have some bookmarks on firefox.. but that's about it.. Is there a reason? When I compared opening Gmail through Firefox and Chrome- Firefox was about a GB of memory or more. *My husband did try a few things we googled to help minimize memory... but didn't help.

Thanks for the help! Jennifer.

Hi jennifer.nozz!

Yes, unfortunately, that is normal for Firefox to take up 2 GB of RAM. Regardless of whether you are using Adobe Creative Cloud (or other resource heavy software) it will still run at that much memory.

Here is a page by Mozilla that should address some fixes https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-or-cpu-.... According to the article "At times, Firefox may require significant system resources in order to download, process, and display web content. "

Did that answer your question?

thank you for your reply! We had already seen that link and followed the steps.. I've always used firefox, but have been having more problems lately.. Wouldn't someone just switch to chrome or another browser? I don't want to switch :-( but I can't work properly...
