Hey, I have been having issues opening Firefox past few days. I reviewed some older articles over this. At this time I have taken the time to remove Firefox from the program folders, but I can't confirm if it was actually removed since I can't find where the folder is outside of searching when I'm in the programs section. Tried a couple times with removing, reinstalling, restarting computer, was unsuccessful.

I was not able to get FireFox opened in safe mode, I saw how to attempt opening it with Windows + R to no success.

I have done an anti-virus run over night and any threats for adware, malware, etc were removed, then restarted computer, and tried again with running the install, but can't open it still.

I am really needing some assistance for figuring out what to do further for getting FireFox back to working.

Did you try to open Firefox in Windows Safe Mode ?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Are you using Windows 10?

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer.

I'm on Windows 10. I will try this method and run a registry scanner to see if this solves my issue.

Removing Mozilla and Firefox folders, doing registry, and rebooting didn't work. I tried opening Firefox in Safe Mode, I'll try Windows Safe Mode next.

Booting in Safe Mode worked! Thanks so much! Would I need to keep booting in Safe Mode in the future to keep access to Firefox?

If it works in Windows Safe Mode then it is possible that other software (possibly security software) is blocking Firefox.

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox application. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Yeah, it was definitely Norton. I was doing some quick research for people with similar issues, and none of the quick ones resolved the issue, so I decided to just remove Norton completely and see if I can open FireFox, and now it's not being blocked. I will take the time to reinstall Norton later, but if it's having the same issues I would prefer just changing Anti-Virus software, so if anybody could recommend an alternative that works well it would be greatly appreciated.

I use Norton 360 and never had problems with it.
