Messages Open Behind Thunderbird

I upgraded to Thunderbird (78.4.0) over the past week – first on one Windows 10 computer – and noticed that messages open ... but they open behind the program.

(To clarify: if I double-click on a message, I expect it to open on my screen, on top of everything else, so I can read it. Instead, when double-clicking now, the message flashes on screen quickly ... then disappears behind the Thunderbird program window. The message is there, but it isn't on top.)

I figured that I did something wrong in my setup, but can't find where I screwed this up. Thunderbird still works great, but this is an issue for me – I like clicking on a message to read it, not having to tab over to the message.

Thinking that I screwed something up, I upgraded Thunderbird on one of my other office computers and have the same results. I didn't any of my settings ... but I know I "broke" something somewhere.

Thanks in advance for your help!

UPDATE: I note that running Thunderbird in safe mode fixes this issue ... but choosing "Reset toolbars and controls" and restarting does not make the "fix" permanent.

Is it okay to keep running TB in safe mode, or does that limit other options?
