I am using Thunderbird version 68.12.0 (32bit) and windows 10. My email is hosted at rise broadband. The recently made some changes to their email servers. The new settings are:

Secure (SSL/TLS):

Incoming server (POP): securemail.risebroadband.net and the port is 995. Outgoing server (SMTP): securemail.risebroadband.net with a port of 465.

Insecure email:

Incoming server (POP): securemail.risebroadband.net and the port is 110. Outgoing server (SMTP): securemail.risebroadband.net with a port of 1025

Outgoing server does require authentication

I get the following error message: Sending of password for user [email protected] did not succeed. Mail server securemail.risebroadband.net responded: Failed to proxy your connection to 209.249.171.158:110. Bye!

Rise Broadband says this is a thunderbird issue. Can someone help me out with this?

Configure Thunderbird to NOT use a proxy. Go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Network & Disc Space > Connection > Settings. Set it to "No proxy" then click OK to apply the changes and close the dialog.

Next, go to Account Settings > Server Settings and change to the secure (SSL/TLS) settings as given by risebroadband. Set connection security to SSL/TLS and Authentication method to Normal Password.

Thank you Stans for the response.

I have made the changes you suggested and I get the message:

"Sending of password for user XXXXXXXX did not succeed. Mail server securemail.risebroadband.net responded: XXXXXXXX(my email address) selected.

Not sure what to do next.
