Created New Firefox Account Instead of Linking Old Mozilla Account-What Steps To Take?
Please answer each question separately:
Even though Google is my default search engine, I have selected the remaining 6 default options under 'One Click' Search Engines.
When I type a letter, it brings up searches for my default Google but the icons for the other search engines are in the bottom left corner.
1. Am I supposed to click on one of the icons to bring up a search for that particular search engine OR is my address bar search supposed to show searches for all seven search engines?
2. When 'Never Remember History' is selected, am I still able to select the 'One Click Search Engines' that will automatically be displayed the next time that 'Remember History' is selected OR can I only choose the one-click search engine options when 'Remember History' is selected?
3. Before signing into my old account, I noticed that users have to create a new Firefox account, even if they have an existing account, so that is what I did-Is that what I was supposed to do?
4. With this new account, will I automatically receive an email notification when someone responds to my thread?
5. Periodically, when signing in with my new account, I receive a 'Bad Request 400' message. Other times, I am able to sign in but the top right corner does not show me as signed in so I have to sign in again; Are these known glitches?

Hi beano100:
Q1. Am I supposed to click on one of the icons to bring up a search for that particular search engine OR is my address bar search supposed to show searches for all seven search engines?
Firefox can only show suggestions from one search engine at a time. If you want to send a search to a different site, you can either:
(A) Ignore the suggestions from Google and click the icon for the other site.
(B) Start your address bar query with @ and Firefox will list the available built-in search engines. Unfortunately, add-on search engines don't integrate with this yet.
Q2. When 'Never Remember History' is selected, am I still able to select the 'One Click Search Engines' that will automatically be displayed the next time that 'Remember History' is selected OR can I only choose the one-click search engine options when 'Remember History' is selected?
Never Remember History switches Firefox to automatic private browsing. Search is still available in private browsing mode. Have you noticed any problem with which ones are displayed? I don't think there should be a problem.
Q3. Before signing in, I noticed that users have to create a new Firefox account, even if they have an existing account, so that is what I did-Is that what I was supposed to do?
Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean. You can use your Firefox account to sign in to the support site. You don't need to create a completely new Firefox account.
Q4. With this new account, will I automatically receive an email notification when someone responds to my thread?
You should receive an email notification to the primary email address in the Firefox account you used to start this thread.

I will be clearer with my questions.
1a. Am I correct that even if all one-click search engine options are ticked, Firefox will only show suggestions for my default search engine so I will have to click on the individual icons, one at a time, to view other searches?
b. You mentioned that I could start my address bar query with @ and Firefox will list the available built-in search engines. By 'available built-in search engines,' are you referring to the one-click search engines or something else?
2. Even though the 'one-click search engine 'options are only enabled when 'remember history' is selected, can I still place 'checkmarks' beside the 'one-click search engines' for the next time that 'remember history' is enabled or are the one-click options greyed out until 'remember history' is selected?
3. 'Oops'-I did not realize that I can link my existing Mozilla Support to the new, Firefox Account. Should I sign out of this new account, sign in to my old account and follow the prompts?
5. Periodically, when signing in with my new account, I receive a 'Bad Request 400' message. Other times, I am able to sign in but the top right corner does not show me as signed in so I have to sign in again; Are these known glitches?
6. My old account used a username but this new account required my email address. Is only the' Beano100' part visible to everyone?

Suggestions are only shown from the current default search engine.
Clicking an icon will send your search to that site to show the results page.
Q2. Even though the 'one-click search engine 'options are only enabled when 'remember history' is selected, can I still place 'checkmarks' beside the 'one-click search engines' for the next time that 'remember history' is enabled or are the one-click options greyed out until 'remember history' is selected?
I don't really understand what you're seeing. One-click search engines should work normally in automatic private mode, and not be grayed out. I am attaching a screenshot of what I see, which is that address bar suggestions are grayed out, but everything else is normal. The reason search engine suggestions are disabled in private mode is to avoid sharing part of an address you plan to visit with the search site.
Q3. On the Firefox Forum homepage, when I click the ‘log-in’ link in the top right corner of the page, it states ‘We are upgrading our log-in system to replace Mozilla Support accounts with Firefox Accounts.,’ so I clicked on ‘Continue with Firefox Accounts’ and created a new account; Is that what I was supposed to do?
Hmm, I was able to link the Firefox Account login to my existing SUMO account, but I can't recall how it worked. Maybe I was logged into the SUMO account (using the old login) first?
Q5. Periodically, when signing in with my new account, I receive a 'Bad Request 400' message. Other times, I am able to sign in but the top right corner does not show me as signed in so I have to sign in again; Are these known glitches?
I have not heard of that. It could be a new glitch since the site is getting multiple changes at the moment. If it goes wrong once and then works after that, it might be hard to track down the problem. If you notice a pattern to it, that would be really helpful.
Q6. My old account used a username but this new account required my email address. Is only the' Beano100' part visible to everyone?
I can't see your email address anywhere. (I'm not a moderator.)
1a. Am I correct that, even if all of the remaining 6 one-click search engine options are unchecked, I can still do a specific search for any of those 6 search engines by typing @ in the address bar and choosing one of the 6 one-click search engines in the drop down list?
b. Am I correct that an icon will only be displayed if a checkmark is placed beside that one-click engine' and typing @ will bring up all of the one-click search engines (even if they are unchecked) but there will not be any icons?
c. Since 'Google' is my default though, why is the Google icon only displayed when another search engine has been selected?
2. 'Oops'-Not realizing that I could link my existing Mozilla Account to the new Firefox Account. I created a new a Firefox account that I am currently signed in to What should I do?

Hi beano100, could you experiment and reply with the answers to #1a-1b?
I don't understand this question:
c. Since 'Google' is my default though, why is the Google icon only displayed when another search engine has been selected?
Icon displayed where? Does your drop-down look similar to the attached screenshot?
2. 'Oops'-Not realizing that I could link my existing Mozilla Account to the new Firefox Account. I created a new a Firefox account that I am currently signed in to What should I do?

I hope that a moderator reads this thread and can tell me if I need to delete this account or my old account since I did not link this one with the old one.
The same email address was used for both accounts.

Only an administrator can help if there are issues with an email address or a SUMO user account. Did you create any questions or replies with the old account? If that isn't the case then you can either abandon this account or if you can login then delete the account (this changes the name to a generic user### name) and continue to use the current account.
Cor-el:
Yes, I had created threads with my old account-In fact, this new account that I am currently using was only created yesterday and this thread is the only one under the new account.
- Should the old or new account be deleted and what steps do I take when signing in to the other account?
Modified
What happens if you try to login to the old account? If you sign in in the old way with a SUMO account and not with the Firefox Account then I think that you should be able to link this account to an existing Firefox Account unless this email is already used.
I get this message when I use an email address that is already used for another SUMO account: "The email used with this Firefox Account is already linked in another profile." So to use a specific email you would have to change the primary email in the new account to free up this email and hopefully this allows to use this email in the old account pr use a new email for the old account for now. Be cautious with deleting the new account before you are able to reuse the old SUMO account.
Cor-el:
I am able to sign into my old SUMO account without any issues.
I cannot link the old and new accounts because the email address is the same.
Here is what happened yesterday:
I was about to sign in to my old SUMO account then noticed the message about old SUMO accounts being deleted and that a new Firefox account had to be created.
I obviously misread the notice because I thought that I had to 'create' a new Firefox account because the old SUMO account would be deleted automatically shortly-My mistake.
I am currently signed into my new Firefox account; Are you suggesting that I change the primary email in this new Firefox account. After that, sign out and sign into my old SUMO Mozilla account and link the new account to the old account?
Modified
You can try that to see how far you get. It is not easy to understand the logic behind this and figure out in what order to proceed.
It looks complicated to me to change the email address for this forum with the change to the Firefox Account. With the old account it was easy and you can simply change the email address on the SUMO settings page. With a Firefox Account you would first have to add a secondary email and confirm that and then change the primary email (swap secondary and primary) and then possibly remove the no longer needed secondary email address if I understand correctly. If you can't access the primary email for some reason then you might be in trouble in case verification is required or emails are send to this email address. I notice a problem when I connected to Sync with one account and use a different email for the SUMO account (I end up on the Sync account settings page and not on the Sumo account settings page on accounts.firefox.com).
