Nov 7 Lost AON/Verizon mail outgoing What is correct settings?
On evening of Nov 7 I lost mail outgoing to AOL/Verizon server - Received warning message from AOL to correct settings
I manually tried all versions of 465/587, Starttls/SSL TLS, and both my email addresses
Got error message - 'An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again'

Using AOL. Norton Security, Windows 10, Thunderbird 52.5.0 (32 bit) latest versions 7/12/17
Go into your Thunderbird Preferences -> Account Settings -> Server Settings -> change security to STARTTLS from the dropdown box and make sure all setting match up with the new ones, like if you moved to AOL you need to change all your mail server settings.
https://www.verizon.com/support/residential/email
You are aware that they don't offer e-mail anylonger? (not ure how current that is)
From what I gather is that AOL won't let you use 3rd party clients (at least not from the website I was on).
In that case I would recommend https://protonmail.com/ and https://riseup.net/ that are both centered around privacy and security, while staying away from AOL, Gmail and Windows based mail.
I seem to come across this that will walk you through step by step

Email Worked on AOL/VZ for about a year until Dec 7 - (not Nov) Using [email protected] for two email accounts The AOL recommended settings for VZ customers;
'Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net POP3 - 995 - SSL'
I receive mail using settings POP - 995 - SLL/TLS Tried other combinations and all failed to retrieve mail.
The AOL/VZ recommended settings for POP Outgoing;
'Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net SMTP - 465 - SSL'
I have re-tried all combinations of settings (see prev attach) with no luck.
SMTP - 465/587 and STARTTLS/ SLL/TLS, including smtp.aol.x
I assume that it was the AOL/VZ server that sent back the 5.7.0 error msg after receiving some security command from TB.
Question when was Thunderbird 52.5.0 (32 bit) made available?
My suspicion is that the format of the initial command sent (not STARTTLS) was incorrect or was sent using the wrong port setting.
