Certain sites will not load. I tried to go to certain sites and nothing renders. I attempted a fix by clearing out my history and it worked temporarily. It keeps recurring. It seems to have started after the last update.

Thanks, JDNM

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

That did not work. I tried the clearing of history and it worked. However, this will only last for a short time and will not render the site again.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, choose History, and then "Clear Recent History...".
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

Further information can be found in the Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox article.

Hi JDNM, when you clear history, which categories are you clearing? What I mean is are you clearing cache and cookies, which are a typical approach when sites do not load correctly, or do you need to clear other kinds of history?

(In the "Clear Recent History" dialog, there's a details panel with checkboxes for the different categories.)

I clear everything, but you don't need to go that far. Just cache and cookies, but I found that solution short lived and the site will be blank after you shut down the browser.

You are not listening. That works for temporarily, but when I got to the site at a later date its not rendering.

That's hard to understand. At shutdown, nothing should change. There are add-ons and external programs which may touch Firefox history and cookies, either to clear them or to clear some cookies and reinstate others. To try to sort out a cache issue from a cookie issue, the next time you get a blank page, try reloading using Command+Shift+r (or Shift+click the reload button). That will bypass the cache. If the problem persists, it seems more likely to be a cookie problem.

I did not work either.

Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.
