If the server sends a specific content type that triggers a download, then Firefox should either ask you want you want to do with it, or follow the settings in the Applications section of the Options page. Unfortunately, some content types are more or less generic and will not be associated with a particular application even if you previously checked the box.

What's missing from that feature, what do you want to accomplish?

I wish I could manually specify a portion of a URL so Firefox will automatically attempt to open it in the application. For example, this is the type of URL that opens the Adobe Connect application: https://companyurl.adobeconnect.com/pjfj6lg0nkh6/?proto=true.

Sometimes, however, there are URLs like this that don't open Adobe Connect: https://companyurl.adobeconnect.com/pjfj6lg0nkh6/?launcher=false&fcsContent=true&pbMode=normal.

I would like to tell Firefox to always try to open all URLs that start with https://companyurl.adobeconnect.com/ in Adobe Connect.

I tried both solutions. The first doesn't work for me, and the suggested "Right Click Enhancer" software isn't free. :(

Unfortunately I can't think of a way to do that. Firefox is keying off of the response from the server more than the address.

There is a kind of add-on that lets you open links in another browser, and those might work to open links in another program, too. These extensions require an intermediate bit of software as a separate download, so they are a bit of a pain, as you can see if you look at the reviews for "open in Chrome" extensions. I can't really recommend these at the moment.

Yeah, I kind of figured there wouldn't be a native way to do this in Firefox. I had my fingers crossed, though.
