Text boxes and radio buttons are hard to see on most websites

This may be because I switched from a desktop to a laptop computer recently, but on a lot of websites, text boxed and radio buttons are almost invisible to the point where I have to readjust the angle of my monitor to see them. I have tried changing setting in my NVIDIA Control Panel and was able to make them easier to see but it ended up making images display in off colors. I don't know if there is a setting or addon that could solve this but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

First, let's see if it's your add-ons causing the issue.

Note: there are add-ons that can change how the web page is displayed.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Make sure you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.

Make sure you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Options/Preferences -> General: Fonts & Colors -> Colors: "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above"

Try "Never" if the default "Only with High Contrast themes" isn't working.

This setting affects background images.

Sorry I took so long to respond. I think it must just be certain websites. I can see the text boxes and radio button here perfectly. I don't know if there is an add-on or setting I can change so I can see them easier on all sites. I just updated to Firefox Quantum a few days ago, so I know the pool of working add-ons is a little smaller.

There are add-ons that change how a page is displayed. Larger, smaller, colors in use . . . .

I think that on some sites, the color of the display and the controls are the same. Changing one or the other should fix this.

Does starting Firefox in Safe Mode make a difference?

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via one of these:

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting to make the change effective.

Thanks for the suggestions. I can't remember which sites I was having trouble with, but when I find one again I will try your suggestions and post back here.
