Thunderbird uses wrong mail server
Steps to recreate: Having 2 PCs using the same IMAP email account (and others) in Thunderbird.
1. I started editing a new mail on one PC with Thunderbird. Saved this mail as draft. 2. I continued editing this email on another PC with Thunderbird. (Opened by double-clicking on the mail in drafts folder.) 3. I send the mail.
Thunderbird will send the mail using the SMTP server of another existing IMAP account and place it in "Sent" folder there. This could lead to mails going to spam, and it could be a security risk too!!
Here is the complete troubleshooting info below of Thunderbird on the second PC. On the first PC Thunderbird has a different setup, but is using the same IMAP/SMPT account.
The mail was re-opened from account 1, which is the default account here. The senders address was set to this account and not changed in editing window. When I clicked "send", Thunderbird used account 5 to send the mail and placed it in "sent" folder of account 5.
I really hope this can be fixed!
Greetings, Greg

The duplicate entries for outgoing in accounts 1 and 3 with identical server settings (the bottom ones) indicate you are using multiple and perhaps different identities. Most likely, the second PC uses another identity that has defined a different SMTP server for that identity. These Identity settings overrule the general settings for an account - especially with regard to SMTP server settings and Copies & Folders - so make sure to remove any unneeded identities, or make them similar in both setups. If they are identical, make sure to set the proper default identity using Manage Identities… > Set Default.
