Don't know if this is the problem, but;

Installed Plug-ins

Shockwave Flash 25.0 r0 Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0
Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here:

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html Uninstall Flash Player | Windows

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

Flash Player Version: 25.0.0.171

I uninstalled the Flash Player and now it won't let me install it again. I have tried it a few times. I do seem to have an Adobe reader, I can read my adobe files.

On The Tab

Usually Firefox displays a little speaker icon on a tab that is generating audio, and you can use that to mute or unmute audio. However, I don't think Firefox normally displays a volume control. If you had that before, perhaps it was a feature added by an add-on?

Video Player Controls

If controls do not appear, try right-clicking the video and selecting "Show Controls" from the context menu. Note that if you are playing video in a plugin, it may or may not have that item. Some sites also override Firefox's normal right-click context menu on their player, such as YouTube. If there are particular sites where you have this problem, feel free to post a link (assuming the content is suitable for all ages).

Is the HTML5 media player used or is the Shockwave Flash plugin used to play the media files?

You can check via the right-click context menu of the player area what type of media player is used. A Flash based player shows a context menu with the Flash version.

Make sure that you close Firefox when you try to install Flash. You can also try to install Flash in Windows Safe Mode.

See also the settings here;

  • "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins

Note that an extension like Classic Theme Restorer has a setting to hide the speaker icons.

You can check the related pref on the about:config page.

  • browser.tabs.showAudioPlayingIcon

I called the Icon by the wrong name. It should be Speaker Icon. When I right click in the tab the icon appears muted, when I unmute it, it disappears.

I downloaded Shockwave Flash Player and nothing. I have search everywhere and can.t find what i need.

Thanks for all your help so far. Any other suggestions.

The 'speaker' only appears when the player is running sound.
