I uninstalled Lightning using the Add-ons Manager and restarted Thunderbird, then installed the downloaded version (4.7.4, Windows 10). I restarted Thunderbird again and Lightning appears in the Extensions, but the Calendar entry in the View menu item and the Calendar properties entry in the Edit menu item are both greyed out.

I just discovered the Calendar entry in the Events and Tasks menu item. When I clicked it the Calendar tab appeared. Either I missed the instruction to click this item or it wasn't in the installation instructions. In any event, my problem is solved.
