address book is suddenly very slow

My address book is responding very, very slowly, which makes it useless.

I don't need to open it very often so not sure how long this issue has been going for. This morning I needed to make some changes in some of my contact lists. When I open the adress book, it first appears blank for about 30 seconds. Then all my contacts appear but I can't select any nor navigate through my different contact lists (I have only 2 custom lists on top of the default collected addresses and personal adresses lists). If I click on a contact, it takes about 30 seconds to select it, and if I try to drag and drop it to one of my lists it also takes another 30 seconds to complete.

I am using the latest version of Thunderbird for mac, latest version of OS X, and everything else is working fine on my mac. I have restarted thunderbird a few times, restarted my mac, nothing changes.

Anybody knows what's happening ? Thanks

I have the same or similar problem (Windows 10 on a PC). When filling in the "to" line, address book is VERY slow to respond, especially when you try to put in a second address. Often choices for addresses appear and then disappear in a flash before I can choose. This was never true in the past, but has been for the last several weeks. I have tried Safe mode with no effect.
