I only have the last 30 days of emails in sent mail (IMAP setup). I want the entire year? What is the easy solution?

more options

I have set up Thunderbird as an IMAP email client. I love it in every way - except one! It only keeps only the last 30 days of sent mail in my sent mailbox. It apparently archives all the sent mail at the end of the year (did that at the end of 2015). But that means that I don't have access to my sent mail from the beginning of the year to the 30 days ago, but only the last month's. I have gone into options and asked it to save for 365 days, but that didn't change anything (and I can't even find that in the new version of Thunderbird). I am sure there is an easy solution. Can anyone tell me what it is?
