when I enter a name in address that has been removed from my address book, Tbird autocompletes with the removed address. IN apple mail this occurs for previous recipients and is fixed by removing the address from this list.

Chosen solution

If Thunderbird offers an address, then that address hasn't actually been completely removed from your Address Book. It will be found in one of the address books you didn't know you had. Collected Addresses is the usual suspect. On a Mac, the native address book is another possible source.
