saved emails copied to me (i.e. I'm not the "To", but a "cc") have disappeared

emails were saved in sub folders under my email address (not under "local folders"). They have disappeared from my laptop which has thunderbird updated, but not from my desktop, which hasn't. All saved emails "To" me are not affected

Did your subfolder disappear or the actual emails? If subfolder try subscribing to it. (rightclick on account /subscribe)

no, the subfolder is still there with all the emails addressed directly to me, but none to other people which have been "cc'd" to me.

An update shouldn't affect your profile But have you tried to open that folder and repair it? Right-click /properties/ repair folder.

Thanks for that, but I had already tried it. My folders were under my main email a/c name on an IMAP server, which may not have helped. I have now put them all under local folders, which ought to give me better control, and I have copied the wanted emails from my desktop, which still had them. Tedious, but I got there in the end. A salutary reminder that backups are more than just a good idea.
