I was trying to update from version 31 to current version (38.1) of thunderbird on a windows 7 computer. When that failed repeatedly, I decided to uninstall the older version and start fresh. The installer (Thunderbird Setup 38.1.0) is saved to my download folder, and I run it from and administrator account. A window appears showing progress in extracting, but the install wizard never appears. Any ideas, similar experiences? I am certain that the hardware requirements are met. (Running this on a Dell computer that is less than 2 years old).

Thanks -

Maybe a corrupted download? Try deleting the downloaded version from your file, going directly to the site, and downloading it again. (Clear your cache before doing it, just in case). Simple, but it worked for me in similar instances.

No luck with the route of corrupted download. I have downloaded copies from two different browsers, but behavior was still the same. Is there somewhere that I can download OLDER versions? Thinking of trying the last version that worked, which was 31.

Here is a link that provides good instruction on going back to older versions as well as the link to those versions. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Go_back_to_an_old_version_of_Thunderbird

However, I'm not certain your issue really needs to be resolved in that manner. You state that the wizard does not show up, and that's fine. But if your goal is to create an account or profile, did you try going into FILE - NEW - GET A NEW MAIL ACCOUNT?

If I did not understand the problem correctly, perhaps you can explain what exactly you wish to do rather than focusing on the tool you think you may need.
