Hello, Last night when I opened Firefox I discovered that I had a virus on my laptop. I don't know how I got it, all I wish to know is how to get this pesky virus off. I watched a dozen of Youtube videos on how to fix it and tons of articles online, but none of them solved my issue. Most of them suggest 'Reseting' Firefox, however when following the steps given, I don't see an option to do so, just 'Refresh' Firefox which I did, with no result. I am told to go to the Firefox menu (the three black lines in the top right hand corner) then the question mark, and then 'Troubleshooting information'. Once there I was told to click the 'Reset Firefox' button, but all I see is:

'Give Firefox a Tune-up: Refresh Firefox'

'Try safe mode: Restart with Add-ons disabled'

None of these are a way to 'Reset' Firefox. I did try Refreshing, but it did not get rid of the virus I am going on holiday in less than 2 weeks, and I need to sort this out before I leave, preferably without spending money or downloading anything as I don't trust anything anymore to be honest. I had my antivirus on, as always, but it still let the virus get on. I currently have Bit Defender which has worked very well before this happened.

Is there anyone who knows how to get rid of it this virus? I have looked in 'Uninstall a Program' and removed everything relating to it, but the search.helperbar.com still persist to come up when I open Firefox.

All help is extremely appreciated! Take care, -Emese :)

Can anyone please help?

Hi, please try working through Remove Feed.Helperbar.com redirect (Virus Removal Guide) by Malware Tips, which has a good track record for malware removal. The name is slightly different, but I suspect that they are pretty much the same.

Note that not all removal programs will detect all malware, so you may need to run several or all of them.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

As I mentioned, I have done what this website lists, but my question is, how to Reset Firefox.

Reset is an old term for Refresh. Since you said in your original post that you had done that, I knew that further steps would be required, which is why I linked you to the article by Malware Tips.

If the malware is on your PC rather than just Firefox, no amount of refreshing will eradicate it.

You may need to run several or all of the removal programs.
