Thunderbird freezing after a couple minutes, Windows 10
I have a fresh install of Thunderbird on my Windows 10 (Latest build) pc. After linking 4 gmail accounts and a hotmail account, Thunderbird now freezes within two minutes of me launching it. Even after updating to the beta, it still freezes. Thunderbird is amazing and I'm dying to get a good email client working. I have tried safe mode, but that didn't do anything either. I will continue to try things, but if anyone could offer me a solution, I would appreciate it so much. Thanks!

What is your anti-virus software?
Modified
Well the latest build is 10130, which is what I have. It doesn't matter what version of Thunderbird it is. Tell me what version you want me to try. I have no anti virus except Windows Defender.
I'm asking for the version number because there currently is no beta newer than the release version.
Try to start *Windows* in safe mode with networking enabled.
Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode.

Does the problem go away?
Modified
I didn't notice that it was actually older when I downloaded it. But I also tried Earlybird 40.0a2 and you can guess the results. I will try windows safe mode and get back to you.
Just tried it, and Earlybird 40.0a2 still crashes in safe mode.
Does it freeze or crash? That's a big difference.
Freezes, sorry.
What is your account type? What is the size of your mail folders?
Well I just used the wizard to add my 4 gmail accounts and hotmail account. The hotmail account and 3 gmail accounts are pretty small, but my primary gmail account has over 16,000 emails.
I believe it is a specific email that is causing it to crash. On my largest email account, when it is about 16570/16590 done downloading emails, it freezes, and then freezes again whenever I launch. how can I identify which email it is? Maybe if I find out which one it is I can delete it from gmail.com to prevent it from being downloaded?
I suggest you create an exception in Defender for the Thunderbird profile and see if that helps. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues#Problem_Antivirus_and_Anti-Malware_Packages
Oh great, I thought I made a reply, but I guess I never posted it.
I tried disabling Defender real time protection and added an exception to the thunderbird directory, but it still froze. If I block thunderbird from connecting to the internet, it doesn't freeze. This leads me to believe even more that it is a specific email it is trying to download that is causing it to freeze, but I still do not know which one.

Are those 16k messages primarily in your Inbox and Sent folders? Are you subscribed to the Gmail 'All Mail' folder? Do you have synchronization enabled for the Gmail account? Do you see anything in the error console? Tools (Alt-T) - Error Console
Could this be your problem? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1067713#answer-744690
Yes, they are in inbox and sent. My list of folders looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/jVzMHyl.png Synchronization is enabled There are some warnings in error console, mostly about some .css file but no errors.
And I doubt it the new notification sound, because it doesn't crash until I add that gmail account, I can get new email notifications without it crashing for my other gmail accounts.
If I sync only emails from the past 4 years on my gmail, then it doesn't crash. That's a solution I am OK with. But now I am having a problem syncing all the emails with my hotmail. I am getting this error in the console:
Timestamp: 6/23/2015 12:49:39 PM Error: 2015-06-23 12:49:39 autosyncActivities ERROR OnDownloadError: Inbox of [email protected]

It isn't recommended to accumulate messages in Inbox (and Sent) folders. Keep your Inbox as clean as possible and move messages somewhere else. You may want to do this on the server. Or you could also use the Thunderbird archive feature. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages
Make sure to create a backup of your profile folder before starting to move messages around. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Backing_Up_and_Restoring

Which account was the problem - hotmail or gmail?
Using pop? Or Imap?
Google, using Imap.
