Am getting this error when trying to send out emails
"An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: smtp5.coralwave.com."
My ISP provider said the problem is within my email software

re: Outgoing server name = smtp5.coralwave.com
Did your ISP tell you that smtp5.coralwave.com is the correct outgoing server name? what server name, port, connection security did the ISP tell you to use?
I did locate this info:
https://www.cablebahamas.com/revon/faqs#28
Try using smtp.coralwave.com
smtp5.coralwave.com is not correct. My account setting is show the correct outgoing server and that is smtp.coralwave.com
Some times my emails go but 90% of the time they do not go showing the error. I do not have "smtp5" in any of my settings for outgoing and can't find where its coming from.
Please post info:
In thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'copy text to clipboard' paste info into this question.
then.... Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab click on 'Config Editor' button it will tell you to be careful :)
In top search type : smtp Extend the window so all entries can be seen. Use Print Screen key to get screen dump image and use eg: Paint to create a jpg For this line : mail.smtpserver.smtpX.username = there will be a 'Value' = your email address. Use 'Paint' s editing facility to blank the email address out.
Post an image of this window.
see jpeg attached please
In the image you posted, I can see that you have:
- mail.smtpserver.smtp5.description; Temp for Corelwave
- mail.smtpserver.smtp5.hostname;65.75.75.35
Plus a few other Values for various mail.smtpserver.smtp5.
this tells me that you have two outgoing servers which potentially could be used to connect to corelwave.
What I need to see now is this: In thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'copy text to clipboard' paste info into this question.
If you have only one mail account which you use to connect to corelwave and you currently use outgoing server name smtp.corelwave.com with description 'out going server', then you can delete the unused Outgoing smtp server name which uses the IP address 65.75.75.35.

the IP 65.75.75.35 is just a backup to SMTP.coralwave.com that they have suggested using when they are having issues. The other smtp setting I will delete
The "smtp5.coralwave.com" is not showing anywhere in my outgoing settings
The IP 65.75.75.35 is the IP address of the mail server smtp.coralwave.com. There is no backup about it. That they are suggesting you use an IP address rather than the FQDN indicates they have DNS issues.
But that does not explain where the error message comes from does it. When Thunderbird connects to a mail server the server identifies with a helo (or ehlo) and a status. The server your connection to is offering smtp5.coralwave.com as it's greeting. This to Thunderbird is the same as if the reply to your question arrived is swahili. End of conversation.
Now I just did an SNLOOKUP for cvoralwave.com with the following results.
C:\Users\Matt>nslookup -type=mx coralwave.com Server: UnKnown Address: 192.168.0.1
Non-authoritative answer: coralwave.com MX preference = 15, mail exchanger = smtp3.coralwave.com coralwave.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = smtp2.coralwave.com
This indicates that coralwave advertises those two servers for mail transport in their DNS record.
Similarly there guys http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools#dnsReport|type=domain&&value=coralwave.com Identify issues with the MX records for mail
When I attempt to connect using telnet
Welcome to Microsoft Telnet Client Escape Character is 'CTRL+]' Microsoft Telnet> smtp.coralwave.com 25
I get the following response.
554 smtp3.coralwave.com Connection to host lost. Press any key to continue...
The error 554 is not important, what is, is that I am being rejected by SMTP3.
Seriously I think your mail provider has serious issues and I can offer no real solution But a couple of suggestions.
Try smtp2.coralwave.com and smtp3.coralwave.com instead of SMTP. Try IP 65.75.75.59 and 65.75.75.34 as they are listed in the DNS MX record. Try getting someone to explain their messed up DNS records, because they make little or no sense to me. I think they may have a misconfigured cluster, but really I am only guessing.
