I'm on FF 35 (just updated to 36) on iMac yosemite 10.10.1 Almost every time I try to shut down my computer I have to force quit FF. I've tried the fixes and can't seem to get it to work right. It's been like this for quite a while now. Any ideas or thoughts?

Have you modified your Firefox preferences to use custom settings for History, to clear history when Firefox closes? That has been known to cause shutdown issues. See Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track. A Firefox extension could also be causing problems.

It could help if you would furnish troubleshooting information, to include Important Modified Preferences and installed extensions. See Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues

If you want to try and fix the problem yourself, see these articles:

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.
