My laptop running died completely without warning (motherboard). I removed the hard drive and was able to read it via a USB caddy on my new laptop running Windows 8.1, I cannot find my Firefox bookmarks.

I've read all the posts that seem relevant and tried the the solutions but none seem to work. In a nutshell: a) where on Vista are they stored? the complete path would be helpful! b) which files do I need to copy across to 8.1? Is it just one file, several or all? c) which folder(s) on 8.1 do they go in to? Do they replace existing files?

I have loads of important bookmarks otherwise I would start again.

One thing I now know...BACK UP YOUR BOOKMARKS REGULARLY!

Thanks

I have now resolved this issue, but the information wasn't particularly explicit. I copied the Vista file across to the correct location on W8.1 but got a couple of error messages (sorry didn't take the time to make a note). In the end, I made things work by renaming the W8.1 folder by adding "Old" to the front of the folder name and the renaming the Vista folder (which was something completely different to that of the W8.1 folder but without the "Old" in front obviously.

There may be easier ways but after a couple of weeks getting nowhere I was just happy to reach the conclusion that I wanted.

Thanks Christ1, but I have tried that! A search of the hard drive (Windows Vista) does not reveal any such file path.

Note that the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and later Window 7+ versions and the "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K are hidden folders.
