Why does Firefox 29.0.1 keep crashing?

Since I updated to version 29.0.1 Firefox is crashing daily. Before this latest update I had no problems. I've gone through support and tried every suggestion (safe mode, made sure all drivers are up-to-date, uninstalled and reinstalled, etc.) and yet it still crashes. I desperately need my browser to work flawlessly for my work, otherwise, regretfully, I am going to have to use another browser. Here are a couple of my crash reports:

If anyone can help me stop Firefox from crashing, I will be eternally grateful.

ilg924, It would be best to start your own question. This way, your system details will be shown to us by the Trouble Shooter Add-on.

BTW, your crash report says;

1011864 NEW --- Mozilla Firefox 29.0 crash (pointing to Null ) with window.open and very large sizes (PushClipsToDT signature) 1011348 NEW --- Crash/freeze when rendering certain private-use characters at font-sizes greater than about 1300%

ilg924 Based on the info from Fred, looks like your crash is due to Graphics. This is an on going issue with graphics acceleration and it is being addressed in

Please read the Bugzilla Etiquette if you decide to post in crash reports.

D2d is blocklisted for Firefox 21, and the current nightly version 31/32 is being monitored to less crashes. Now there are patches pending and performance monitoring being preformed on the patches.

In the meantime, you can try to disable hardware acceleration

  • Go to The image "new fx menu" does not exist. -> Options -> Advanced > uncheck the box "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If this doesn't solve this thread, please create a new question at /questions/new

Vici

Are you still wanting to troubleshoot? Seeing as that is a Windows error, that log would be best sent to Microsoft Forums.

OK. Thanks Moses. I'll post that error on Microsoft Forums and see if they can help me with what is going wrong. Thanks again.

I apparently am not alone. The majority of the crash complaints could have been written by me. I have new computer (4 mos old) with 6x times the RAM of my old unit at 12GB. In spite of sailing along no matter what strain I place on my new HP desktop Win7, since upgrading to FFox 30 I crash once or twice per day. The crashes are totally random and it doesn't matter what I'm doing. The only common thread I can determine is on a RAM meter I have displayed on my desktop. Before last FFox update my % of RAM usage never ever rose above 35% of my 12 GB. I've noticed for the first time my RAM indicator is rising to between 40 to even 50%. There is no discernible reason for the sudden rise. I'm not doing anything I don't do everyday, everyday surfing. Now, every crash seems to occur after I've crossed a 40% threshold. Please start your own thread by asking your own question. Please use /questions/new

Note the Crash Signature you mention has thousands of crashes per day. Engineers are starting to investigate and maybe we will be able to offer some news in a few days time.

Crash Signature: gfxContext::PushClipsToDT(mozilla::gfx::DrawTarget*) Bug 1011864#c15
