So, I've tried to disable updates through the settings, and without fail a day or so later it's updated to the latest version again. Any thoughts?

And before everyone starts saying that I need to be updated to the latest and greatest, please tell that to the Western Australian government. The only reason I need the older version is to access certain government resources which can't be accessed through newer versions of firefox.

Hi condonmj, I got it sorted in the end. Try this:

Get the install program downloaded for whatever version you need. Disconnect completely from the internet, unplug cables and turn of wifi as necessary. Install Firefox. Open Firefox, disable auto update and set to never check. Reconnect to internet.

Turns out the problem was that in the half second or so that it took to tell it to never update, it was already downloading and installing the latest and (supposedly) greatest.

Hope that helps.

Hello, We strongly recommend you to keep the latest version of Firefox for stability and security, but if you want then you can keep using an old version and can also stop Firefox from updating. Please see this

Thanks for the reply. As stated in my original question, I am forced to use an old browser version thanks to the government refusing to move with the times. They have resources that we require to meet legal requirements that are ONLY viewable in old versions. -shrug- Trying to explain to their IT liason (sp?) all the reasons to upgrade is just like banging your head against a brick wall. Just as effective, and just as painful. I'll try that suggestion and see how it goes, although it doesn't look any different to anything I haven't already done.

On further investigation, those steps are what I have already tried. Back to the drawing board.

I have the same problem as AussieKnight88 but a different reason. I don't want to update because F30 is not compatible with Kaspersky SafeMoney. I prefer their security to any perceived advantage from F30.

I have ticked the box 'never check for updates' but find that FF has sneakily installed F30 behind my back. I reinstall F29 about once a week. Do you have a cast iron solution for this?

It lasted a week! This morning F30 sneakily downloaded and installed itself despite previous installation of F29 disconnected from internet and selection of 'never update' before reconnection to internet.

Would someone from Mozilla please pay attention to our problem and propose a solution.

Thanks in advance.
