http://www.aleks.com will not work using Mozilla Firefox. It does work correctly with I.E. and Google Chrome.

Mozilla Firefox 27.0.1 Website message reads: Your browser DOES NOT support ALEKS course products that require Java because Java is not working properly.

I have Version 7 Update 51 It is set to Always Activate in Firefox.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:
FirefoxSafeMode

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Thank you.

I reinstalled the ALEKS plugin using Firefox 27.0.1 and made sure that Java on the website was set to Always Activate in Firefox. The website appears to be working correctly now. The previous plugin was loaded in I.E. and Chrome. I checked the ALEKS website and it said: "Firefox on Windows: Java 6 updates 25 through 29 and Java 7 have been known to cause stability problems with Firefox on Windows. The issue has been reported to Oracle. When running Firefox on Windows, please make sure to use the latest version of Java 6, that is update 30 or later. Please visit the FAQ for details."

Thank you for the extra information on Safe Mode.

There has been a change in the Java security settings, see:

If you visit a website regularly then a possible workaround is to add the URL to the Java Exceptions Site List, see:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Java_security_prompts. The part about Java up-to-date/ not being installed seemed to be the problem. "Plugin Check reports outdated Java has been disabled when it is up-to-date or when Java is not installed This bug is now resolved, as reported in bug 790008 #33 (2013-04-25), and should no longer be an issue."

When I downloaded the ALEKS plugin using Firefox it works perfectly now. Java reports that it is active on the website.

I did not get a security prompt, Firefox just hung up until I enabled "always active" for Java and then downloaded the plug in for ALEKS using Firefox. Thank you for the links on Java's security settings.
