Can export bookmark properties but cant import them

more options

Hi, I am a long time user of firefox and am in the habit of putting helpful comments in the <properties> field of my bookmarks. I regularly export my bookmarks and in looking at my exported bookmark files I can see my comments. However, due to a PC problem I have, for the first time, had to import my bookmarks. They come in without error but minus my handy little comments. I am hoping some clever soul will be able to tell me how to import bookmarks with my comments as it will take me ages to recreate all these little comments for each bookmark. Thank you

I'm not sure whether the importer can be coaxed into doing more than it already does, but hopefully others more knowledgeable will find your question.

Do you still have access to any of your old profile folder? in there, in the bookmarkbackups folder, would be .json files that should "restore" with full details. Note that the restore will completely replace your entire bookmarks collection, so if you've added anything new, make sure to preserve that separately.

Thank you for your reply which did in the end solve it as follows. I do have access to my profile, but having had to restore my PC from a full system backup on 9th sept means the list of files in bookmarksbackup in my profile stops then. However each time I do the manual backup I use the HTML option & place the backup in MyDocs of which I keep a daily copy to ext drive. Its these HTML backups that I can see contain all my comments but the restore works ok minus the properties field containing my comments. However I notice in there are some .json files that match the time the html files were created (why?) so I took the other import option that is offered and that selects .json files. That imported and best of all bought in my comments. Happy days !!! So basically it seems like a little bug as FF offers 2 methods of backup/import, .json & HMTL. Only the .json method does the complete restore including the properties field. Incidentally, on seeing a .json file in the area where I put my HTML backup in MyDocs I thought I would first copy it to the bookmarks area you mentioned but FF couldnt see it. So in summary, The HTML method of BACKUP/IMPORT bookmarks loses the properties field The json method doesnt. (still not sure why the backups to MyDocs had both json & html with the same time stamps Wonder if I should write Solved as FF people wont see its a wee bug and fix it. Thanks again jscher2000

The .json files would be created if you choose "Backup" instead of "Export". If they were created for you without having to take that manual step, it's something of a lucky miracle.
