Firefox crashes
These are the CRASH IDs I have racked up over the last 24 hours. It began when I was auto-informed that Firefox 9.0.1 was ready to download, and I did. Now, the platform is completely unstable and crashes nearly everytime I try and access various websites from my bookmarks lists -- mostly the new version seems to have a problem with hotmail.com, but also when clicking on links posted in Facebook. I have written in several times but gotten no replies. PLEASE! I need to either have a fix for 9.0.1, or be sent the previous version of Firefox, which hardly ever crashed. I am losing valuable time trying to deal with this when I should be working, and have had to shift over lots of my work to SAFARI!

Ok - I found a clue. Looks like it could be due to this extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/showcase/
I recommend disabling it - Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

Wow that is not good. I can't seem to pull up a crash report for any of those crash IDs so I'll need to enlist some more help...

Ifyou downgrad it is best to do so to a supported version, that means Firefox 3.6.
As a temporary measure you could install a different version of Firefox, and the easiest my of doing that may be to drop down to 3.6 on firefox portable, whilst keeping Firefox 9 which hopefully will be back to normal soon.
I have not got time to look at this in detsil today but will see if I can get any info about a couple of the listed IDs (Idont think we have aKB article on how to do this)
I am not getting any info at the moment, not even sure whether the PIPA SOPA protest has aything to do with this. Sorry I have work to do and can not spend longer on the forum right now.
Meanwhile see
- installing a previous version of firefox
unfortunately that does not always solve crash problems. (I did check downloads are still available despite any protest) - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes

Thanks, Folks, Verdi's answer, to disable Showcase, appears to have worked instantly. Maybe Mozilla should send out notification that the Showcase plug-in is incompatible with Firefox 9.0.1.
Thanks a million, Verdi!
I'm the author of Showcase; yes, there's a crash that happens when the option "Enable thumbnail caching" is used; this option is in the "Advanced" tab of the Showcase options panel. I'm quite sure this is caused by an underlying Firefox bug, but disabling that feature will solve the problem.
Dear Joseprio, thanks so much for the insight. If I decide that I can't live without Showcase, I will try disabling that option before I enable the application. It's a nifty application, and I never encountered trouble with it before. Right now, though, everything is working perfectly, and I hate to fuss with it. Thanks again.
