I need to remove the proxy from my old university so that I can access research articles through another proxy through a different university. When I click directly on the links that require the proxy, I still go to the old university's proxy server (which doesn't work for me any longer), and I can't figure out how to get Firefox to only go to the new proxy.

You can find the connection settings in Firefox > Preferences > Advanced : Network : Connection

See "Firefox connection settings":

Um, I don't understand what to do. I tried setting it to "No proxy", but I still have the same problem (Firefox trying to access through my inactive university account), and in any case, I *do* need to access through a proxy, just a different one.

If you need to use a proxy then you have to change the connection setting to use that new proxy.

I'm sorry, I still don't understand what to do. I tried renaming the prefs.js file to prefs.jsOLD. Then I tried turning off proxies again, but I'm still having the problem. The thing is, for some sites Firefox connects through the proper (new) proxy, but for others it tries to connect through the old one. How do I get rid of the old one?

Aha! I just figured it out. Firefox was being directed to that proxy by the Zotero plugin. I deleted it in the Zotero preferences and everything seems to be working now. Thanks for your help!
