forgot unsaved password and can't make new one without knowing old one.
Two weeks ago I could no longer get my Thunderbird email. It constantly told me that I had the wrong password. I tried repeatedly (for two weeks) to correct this problem and only succeeded (maybe) in changing my masterpassword. I am always asked to supply my previous password (which I have forgotten.) in order to change it, but never instructed how to retrieve and change it. I am wondering if I am no longer connected to Thunderbird, but don't know how to find this out either. Please help.

Thunderbird is email client software running on your computer. You do not connect to it. The only password in Thunderbird is the Master password and it is optional. Thunderbird refers to it as the Master Password for the Software Security Device when requesting it. Any other request for a password is for the one you setup with your email provider for your email account. This is administered with your email provider. Contact your provider with your options to reset a forgotten email password. Thunderbird has nothing to do with that.
