Thats "normal", its using several processes now for tabs to make a better use of several cpu-cores.
But ram-usage is unbelievable hardcore anyway in my opinion, they definately should overhaul that anyhow...furthermore it would be great if alle these processes could get different names so that everyone could understand what they are for.

2.5 g usage out of a 4 giga ram is not normal at all its a real problem here i used to use firfox for the last 7 years or so never seen such amount of tabs in taskmanager or even that amount of ram usage of 2.5 giga .. i had in the past a pc with a under 1giga byte ram and i was running firefox and other several browsers with no problem..and now with 4 giga ram i cant believe what is happening here every time they make a new update it destroy firefox...
now it's time to move to google chrome that desecion i needed to take since a year or so but i delayed cause i used to use firefox and not comfortable with chrom interface ..now i have to train myself to use chrom and say goodbye to this destroyed firfox forvever
Hi, yes is a bit extreme but so is running 4gigs of ram.
You can try this : Please : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.
Monitor in Task Manager. Should stay below 2 gigs. If excessive then do below and monitor and change if need to...Test and go up again , go back down, it will eventually get a zone you and it can live with.
Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.
You can also change to the Extended Release Version 60.0.1esr Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.
If you do and also just because :

i tried some of what you said as the last try..but sadly nothing much changed ..see the image below and how much the memory usage goes up it's trying to reach 3 gigs !! horrible
the problem is not with what you said i think the problem is with the updates itself actually it's crap and it destroyed firfox to the worse status i have ever seen...
i think there is something terribly wrong with the new updates
Please do not quote everything it is not needed. Quote only what is needed to, https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_blockquote.asp
Sorry, there is not a problem. The issue lays in your under powered system with 4gigs of ram. These 2 must be done :
go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser
Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again.
You can completely turn off the above by doing this : You can disable multi-process windows in Firefox by setting these prefs to false on the about:config page. Copy/Paste into the search bar width of window in about:config and double click to change to false.
browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false
The simpler way would be to install the ESR version as was suggested.
If you want a clean install here ya go : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer
Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 60.0.1 with a Full Version Installer
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I have 8GB of memory on an old desktop system (Nov 2010) and yes, the recent versions of FF are 'exposing' how old our systems are.
What is the Paging Size on your system? I reduced mine to the 1-to-3 GB range and that's helped a lot. (Lot less hard drive disk crunching.) Also, I unchecked the 'Hardware' box (for Video card). I'm using the '2' for the multi-processor option. Have you tried '2' or '4' on your system?
Today, I'm trying a 'ReadyBoost' Flash Drive. At least I can still use today's 'hardware' demanding FF with Win-7 Pro SP1 with some adjustments in Win-7 and FF's About:Config. (Wink)
