Yesterday an extra Google Search Box was placed in the body of one of my home pages. Cannot get rid of it.

I use Firefox as my reading browser and sometime ago stumbled upon a method to make the most visited sites readily available by having photos of their sites as a supplemental home page. Yesterday a large Google Search box was added at the top of that page that I neither want nor need. I search from the address bar. Always have. I've done everything recommended to reset the home page and nothing seems to work. How do I get rid of that space hogging search field (it reduced the size of the 9 site photos that formerly occupied that page;I just click on the page to open a site). I captured a screen shot, but it seems to be awfully large. Can I get rid of it? It just showed up yesterday.

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the Extensions button on the left side of the window.
  3. You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
  4. To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the Remove button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
  5. Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the Restart now link in the message.

Thanks for the response. I will try this and get back later this evening.

If the page that changed was the standard "new tab" page (the page that opens when you type about:newtab in the address bar and press Enter), then you would need to use a custom style rule to hide the search box so that your thumbnails of frequently/recently visited pages can use the whole space.

This thread has more information on how to do that: i have to remove the search engin option from the place where i am pining my favorite site links.
