Save Page As no longer works -Why?
I frequently save web pages File/Save Page As ... or most often File/Save Page in Archive As ... using the Mozilla Archive Format plugin
Suddenly this evening nothing happens when I choose other of those. The menu just goes away as soon as I click on either option. I have not updated Firefox, or anything else, recently.

Please update to the current Firefox 23 release.

The Firefox 21 version that you currently run is no longer supported with security updates.
- It is important to update Firefox and add-ons to the latest version to get all security fixes.
Maybe there is a problem with the MAFF extension.
Does it help if you change the settings in the extension not to replace the built-in "Save Page as"?

Security updates are not particularly interesting unless there is an ACTUAL reason to believe the problem is related. Updates take just short of forever to download. When I entered my 'question' the list of posts suggested as possibly related contained one from someone who acquired the same symptoms immediately upon updating to V23.
I doubt there is a problem with the .maff extension as my previously saved pages in this format can still be viewed. I did replace the Mozilla Archive Format extension, plugin, whatever it is. That took about 45 minutes, but made no difference.
Besides, I don't have to try that kind of save to have the problem. As I wrote last time, it does the same thing (or lack of doing anything) if I select the built-in Save As option, the one that will saves as htm, txt, and such.
Does it help if you change the settings in the extension not to replace the built-in "Save Page as"? I have no idea what that means and I don't see any such settings.
Did you try Safe Mode?
The trouble shooting effort seemed to say that the MAF extension was the problem. How did this come about between one day and the next when the only update process I can't prevent seems to be MS Security Essentials? I'm sure that will never be know.
Updating the MAF extension made no difference. Then, unpeasantly, Mozilla seems to have decided to not make a Firefox download available. I hate online updates but there seemed to be no choice except to spend the hours online necessary to update Firefox under this new regime. This fixed the problem in some mysterious manner. The MAF extension was apparently not updated with the browser; the latest version was already installed.
There are now also several unlikeable changes in the way the browser works: we know what you should be doing, you don't need the choice to decide for yourself. Like it or lump it.
Is your problem with Save Page As... fixed or not?
"This fixed the problem in some mysterious manner."
Did that sentence leave something unclear? It means Save As ... now works again.
Sorry, I missed seeing that in the middle of your whining.
I wasn't in a very good mood after everything, in spite of the fact that I can once again save web pages. I did appreciate the help from cor-el, however.
I was having this problem today in Firefox version 25.0.1. Selecting "Save Page As" did absolutely nothing - no dialog window.
I selected top menu Tools/Add-ons/Extensions, and disabled the extension "Mozilla Archive Format 3.0a1.0". That got the "Save Page As" menu back again - which now functions correctly.

I also have this issue but other formats appear to save still with Mozilla Archive Format 3.0.0 on 64-bit Linux (RHEL6) 17esr.
It also seems to save them in a folder (personal) under the directory I have specified for downloads.
Users report the issue with 10esr.
