Why can't I have my bookmarks show up as icons only in my bookmark toolbar? (Mac OX)

I once had my bookmarks appear only as icons in my toolbar; this allowed a lot more bookmarks to be visible. Now only the full name appears, so I have to click the + to get the unseen bookmarks to show up. What happened?

There are extensions that can only show icons on the Bookmarks toolbar.
You can use one of them if my above posted solution (that can be done without extensions) is too complicated.

To hide the text you can add code to userChrome.css below the @namespace line.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#personal-bookmarks .toolbarbutton-text {display:none !important;}

Thanks, but this is way too advanced for me....I seem to recall there was a menu choice somewhere that said "Show Icons Only" in the Bookmark Bar. I guess not.

The selection you are referring to applies only to icons other than the Bookmarks Toolbar (View > Toolbars > Customize > "Show:", change to "Icons Only"). The advice cor-el gives is probably the only solution to your question.

If you need more Bookmark Toolbar space, see Multirow Bookmarks Toolbar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6937

We have updated Multirow Bookmarks Toolbar to work with Firefox 4.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multirow-bookmarks-toolbar/

We have included Autohide and the ability to turn off the text on Bookmarks and Folders.

Please let us know how it works for you.
