I received a msg from Mozilla that my Firefox was out of date and to download current version. I downloaded the current version but it does not update. I went to the menue and firefox help and it said automatic downloads disabled by system adminiestrator, I'm running linux mint. How do I get the download to update?

Mozilla does not provide updates to third-party builds, only to the official builds of Firefox from Mozilla. The Firefox package you have is updated by Mint.

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/desktop-release/linux64/ The tarbals are simple as you just untar them and run the firefox-bin to run Firefox is the basics. You can create a shortcut launcher on desktop or panel. There is a Firefox icon you can use in Firefox folder. Just make sure that the Firefox folder has read/write permissions for the user to get internal Firefox updates from Mozilla as a easy way is to have Firefox folder in Home.

https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=4259 where they incorrectly stated Firefox cannot handle its own updates as I guess the author was not aware of the internal updates for the official Linux builds of Firefox from Mozilla.

Replying to James,

I'm a old guy, (82), so my knowledge base has evaporated with age. Your response to my question solved my problem. Thanks a lot.
