Can't update to newest version of Firefox: ESR although using macOs Catalina 10.15.7

more options

Hi,

First, I went to Firefox > About and it updated to: version 115, so then I downloaded Firefox extended support release [ESR] for mac from this site; while downloading; closed Firefox browser; and once finished downloading, I dragged to the 'applications folder.' Once there I clicked, "open" and it's still showing latest version: 115.

In Settings > Add-ons > Manage extensions, I have the following:

Adblock + Brave is disabled

DuckDuckGo is enabled

  • I do not have Firefox showing at all.

Please advise what to do next.

Thanks

Hmm you say you have macOS 10.15.7 yet the UserAgent you used to post this thread shows you have macOS 10.13 Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.13; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/115.0

Firefox 116.0 and later including the Firefox 128 ESR and the current Firefox 131.0.3 Release requires macOS 10.15 at minimum. So if it thinks you have macOS 10.13 when you go to a regular mozilla.org page then it will serve you Firefox 115 ESR (for macOS 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 users)

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/desktop-esr/osx/ https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/desktop-release/osx/

Perhaps you Firefox useragent has been modified in some way. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-reset-default-user-agent-firefox

Also note anybody who has macOS 10.15 or later versions with Firefox 116.0 and later will still show as macOS 10.15 in the UA.

Thank you, "useragent" has now been updated to reflect my correct macOS 10.15.7.

https://www.whatismybrowser.com/ = Your web browser is: Firefox 115 on macOS (Catalina)

The bottom line is I need to upgrade to a newer version of macOS (like Big Sur or Monterey) to access the latest Firefox versions (116 and above).

Catalina macOS 10.15.7 does meet the minimum requirements (macOS 10.15) for to install and use Firefox 116.0 and later though. If you do still upgrade to a newer macOS then the UA will still show as if you have macOS 10.15 as I said in earlier reply.

The issue was your UserAgent was modified to show as if you had the older macOS 10.13

You should be able to download the current Firefox 128.3.1 ESR and 131.0.3 Release from below links as I posted earlier. https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/desktop-esr/osx/ https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/desktop-release/osx/

I have now downloaded firefox/131.0, closed firefox browser, started installation and dragged to "applications folder". I then restarted firefox > about and it's still saying version: 115. Did I miss something or did something wrong? Why isn't it taking?

Thank for your time and assistance in this matter.

Also, all my tabs are in dark black. I did not choose "incognito mode". Is this how the new browser tabs are suppose to look?
