Before the latest versions of Tbird 76, if you made a mistake when entering a recipients address in the To: field, you could simply click on the To: address line and use the Backspace key etc. to correct it. Now you can click as much as you want and all you get is that the address is highlighted. This is so annoying. After entering an address, if you wanted to CC to someone, you simply pressed ENTER and it would open a second address line. Now it jumps to the Subject line. It would be logical to at least show a right-click option to add another address but no, now you have only Undo or Paste. The behaviour of the TAB key has also been changed. From the subject line, I want to use Tab ONCE to get into the next field - the body of the email. Instead it appears to tab through the "Variables v" and "Options v" menu names on the right and gawd knows where else, and it isn't until about 5-6 pressing of the TAB key that I finally get to the message body. What is the point of changing something that worked fine to something that requires more time-wasting key presses ? There are no options for changing the behaviour of the Enter or Tab keys in Tbird. Sadly, like everything else "improvements" seem to be steps backwards wasting the time of the user.

And on another note, the Crashes which have been occuring every time I try to add an attachment for the past 18 months, still happen... The only way I can add an attachment without Tbird crashing is by drag and drop.

Once an address has been entered into a 'pill', double-click or right-click the pill to edit.

To have the Cc and Bcc boxes appear by default, install Nostalgy.

If adding attachments causes a crash, does it happen in TB safe mode (hold Shift when launching TB)? Can you post a crash ID from Help/Troubleshooting? An ID begins with bp-.... What is the antivirus, and what are its setting for the TB profile folder?

Thankyou for your reply. The adding-attachment-crash happens in safe mode as well. Tbird has full "permissions" in my antivirus (Avast Premium - full paid version, not the freebie version) program. The only extension that I use is QuickText.

I just tried adding an attachment using the "Attach" and paperclip icon at top right, and of course it crashed. In the Help/troubleshooting list, it is at the very top with the number 6a5a954c-c1a0-49a9-abda-5ab415741e0d 05/02/2021, 13:59 and has apparently not yet been sent or given a bp number.

I have simply got used to - in Windows Explorer find and open the folder with the item I need to attach - move that window a bit to the left - call up the window with the email - get the Explorer window on top of it - drag and drop the item I want to attach into the top right of the email window.

Complicated, but dragging and dropping works without crashing...

To test the effect of Avast, an app that is frequently reported for causing issues with TB, run Windows in safe mode to bypass startup apps. At the very least, disable Mail Shield and SSL scanning in Avast.
