Address bar ignores typed URLs when reopening the intent or already loading another page

Very often when using Firefox Mobile on Android, I'll open the browser and immediately want to go to some URL. So I type the address (say, mastodon.social) and hit enter.

However, when Firefox first opens up after being closed for awhile (or perhaps not finishing whatever it was doing before) it'll try to reload the page that it was on. So as I'm typing, the browser is already trying to load another page.

The problem comes when I hit enter and nothing happens. Maybe it's my slow wifi, but the other page keeps on trying to load. Maybe the page even finishes loading and just sits there. Sometimes I'll even press to open the address bar again and my typed page may or may not still be there, waiting. Hitting enter again doesn't have any effect. Very often I end up having to hit the Stop button (or wait for the other page to finish loading) and then type my desired address again.

So, the expected behavior is that when I type an address into the address bar and hit enter, the browser stops what it's doing and goes to the new address. But the actual undesired behavior is that the browser keeps on doing whatever it was doing and ignores or even overwrites the address typed in the address bar.
