OSX: OS X 10.9.5 (13F1911) Firefox Build: Version 58.0.1 (64-bit)

issue:

Every time I drag a photo from firefox to my desktop, firefox sets itself as the default photo viewer (i.e. when I go to open a photo it opens in firefox instead of preview).

I have no idea why anyone would want this, and it forces me to reset preview as the default each time. How do I stop firefox from automatically making this change?

Hi,

Would you please take a look at this article  ?

How to fix preferences that won't save

Any good  ?

Separate issue :

Your system details show that you need to update your Adobe Flash Player - you are running a very old version, which can cause probems.
Would you please uninstall your current version and install the latest version, which is 28.0.0.137

Note : some 'extras' may be offered in the download.

The solution to my problem is not on the "how to fix preferences that won't save" page.

I checked the page thoroughly. This isn't just me blowing off your advice.

My problem isn't that a firefox preference won't save. I'm asking -

1) Is there a preference somewhere that dictates whether firefox will make itself the default for images

2) if this does exist, where is it and how can I change it. If it does not exist is there a work around or should I just never use firefox for downloading anything.

I don't think that Firefox would make itself the default application for image files.

Is this with image files that you are downloading in Firefox or are send with a content type that forces an open with download dialog?

For download actions in Firefox see:

this is definitely happening...

and I know how to change the default file type. I change it back to preview any time I accidentally download an image through firefox.

The change happens any time I download an image through firefox. That includes both clicking "download" and dragging and image from firefox to my desktop.
