this thread from a couple years ago describes my problem. I have v 50 firefox. windows 7. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/943363?page=1

for no apparent reason, ff all of a sudden went into maximize mode and there was no way to take it out. I finally went into customize and used the tool bar option at the bottom that took it out of that and allowed me control over the browser again.

You can toggle the Title bar on/off via the "Title Bar" button at the bottom left in the Customize palette window. You can make the Menu Bar visible via the right-click context menu of a toolbar or via "Customize -> Show/Hide Toolbars" to have the menu bar with the File and Edit and Bookmarks and History and Tools menus.

Make sure you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).

When you are in Full Screen mode, hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear. You can use one of these to leave Full Screen mode:

  • press the F11 key
  • click the Maximize button at the right end of the Tab bar
  • click the Full Screen button in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list
  • right-click empty space on a toolbar and click "Exit Full Screen Mode"
